Save the Children is a strong presence in some of America’s least-served and most remote rural communities. Our longstanding commitment in these communities and our history of domestic emergency response gives us the capacity to move quickly to support children and families struggling to cope with the extraordinary circumstances of the COVID-19 pandemic.
In the 200-plus rural communities we serve, across 10 states, families were struggling well before COVID-19 arrived. Many cope with multiple risk factors, such as food insecurity, teenage parents, unemployment, substance abuse and depression. School meals—breakfast, lunch and sometimes dinner—are an essential part of their kids’ nutrition. Homes lack books, a pantry stocked with nutritious foods, computers and broadband connections.
To date, we’ve reached over 107,500 U.S. children – more than we planned, thanks to our donors’ generosity. We’ve provided over 1 million meals and 2 million items to families, from hygiene supplies to children’s books.
Save the Children has a number of social media "share cards" already created for COVID-19. View choices and download from this link.
